We haven’t had a lot of time for blogging this year, so forgive me for not posting more of our events online!  We just started a family in January 2013 (our little boy’s name is Nicholas), and our little miracle takes up most of my free time these days!  Thankfully I found time to post about this beautiful wedding that we had the pleasure of photographing.  James and Cortney are an awesome pair.  We had spent time in the Old Port getting to know each other, so I was looking forward to this event.  They are some of the kindest, fun people you will ever meet.

As for their love story, these two met each other when they were 16 years old at a high school basketball game.  James and Cortney came from Rival high schools, Skowhegan and Cony, respectively. They didn’t let the rivalry stop them from spending as much time as possible together on weekends.  They attended separate Maine colleges but were together at every opportunity (James would drive down to UNE to see Cortney in snowstorms against her wishes!)  9 years into their relationship James proposed to Cortney during a horse drawn carriage ride through Central Park in New York City. Cortney was shocked that James could keep a secret from her! She, of course, said,”Yes”!!!

Cortney’s bouquet was wrapped with her grandmother’s rosary beads.

One beautiful couple!

So, let me share a little about Cortney’s awesomeness.  The party bus got stuck in traffic, and was 1 (one) hour late to pick her up from the hotel to take her to the ceremony!!  I was a part of their wedding day planning, and she had planned in ample time for any snafu that might occur so she didn’t have to feel the pressure of being rushed at any point on the actual wedding day.  Well, that went out the window, but this lady hung in there, and greeted the limo driver with kindness and class when he showed up.  While we waited, Cortney kept her chin up and held on to her sense of humor about the issue at hand:

Finally, we made it to this beautiful little chapel, and the rest of the day went off without a hitch!  The ceremony took place at Cortney’s alma mater, UNE, at the Ludcke Auditorium Chapel in Portland.  James’ father, Reverend Mark Tanner, married the two of them, and made their ceremony that much more meaningful.

I love Cortney’s dad’s expression as he gave her away…

Husband and wife!!!

The reception was held at the exquisitely manicured Pineland Farms campus in New Gloucester, Maine.  Black Tie coordinated the event, and provided a beautiful spread of local and organic cuisine.  It threatened to rain, but held off long enough for us to get some amazing outdoor images before the reception.

I think these two girls will be best friends for life, after seeing their friendship up close on Cortney’s special day…

This first dance was incredible; James & Cortney are amazing dancers…

Sincere thanks to the two of you for making us a part of your day!  I can’t wait to share the rest of your images with you!
